Deriving business value from the Internet of Things is as much about managing relationships as it is about device management. MIT SMR’s research found that obtaining business value using the connections IoT creates between an organization and its customers, suppliers, and competitors depends on companies’ willingness to share data with other organizations. The research and subsequent fall 2016 report, “Data Sharing and Analytics Drive Success with IoT,” also looks at analytics capabilities, the impact of larger IoT projects on diseconomies of scale, and potential security issues that accompany device network growth.
